ServSwitch DTX

ServSwitch DTX

ServSwitch DTX
Locate computers at any distance from your desktop by extending a USB or PS/2 computer's KVM, audio, and USB peripheral signals over IP. A remote user only needs a DVI monitor and a USB or PS/2 keyboard and mouse—or a mix of both!

Product Highlights

  • Supports DVI-I video and is also compatible with VGA.
  • Compatible with USB 2.0 peripherals.
  • Delivers CD-quality audio support.
  • Provides 24-bit, 60-fps video and supports resolutions up to 1280 x 1024.
  • Great for relocating computers to secure locations over existing infrastructure.
  • Also enables point-to-point extension over copper up to 328 feet (100 m).

Features

  • Supports PC, Sun®, and Mac® computers and works with Windows®, Redhat Linux, Sun Solaris®, and Mac operating systems.
  • USB inputs enable you to connect USB 2.0 mass storage devices and other peripherals, as well as USB keyboards and mice.
  • All peripherals operate just as if directly connected to the computer, even though the computer is located at a remote location.
  • Transfers data and media at Gigabit speeds and accommodates routing and switching connections.
  • Encrypts media streams for Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) connections over a TCP/IP link and provides password protection.
  • Includes an IP-addressable transmitter for computer-side connections and a receiver for the remote keyboard, monitor, and mouse.
  • With the ServSwitch DTX, you can fully extend desktop control over IP without any of the distance limitations or connectivity requirements of a conventional copper or fiber optic extender.

As long as you have an IP link between your computer and KVM (keyboard/monitor/mouse) station, the DTX will give you secure, high-quality connectivity from the server room to the desktop. Peripherals attached at the DTX unit at the desktop operate just as if they're directly connected to the server, even if the computer itself is located miles—or continents—away.

Like a traditional KVM extender, the DTX system comprises two elements: the local computer node and the remote user node. But instead of a cable providing the connection like a traditional extender does, the DTX transmits data over IP using standard networking protocols.

    You gotta keep 'em separated.
The ServSwitch DTX is ideal for a range of applications. It's particularly useful when you want to give desktop users access to computers from anywhere on a corporate TCP/IP network but you also want to keep the servers themselves housed in a secure location. Or use it to give distant office or home users reliable, 'round-the-clock access to your organization's home computers.

It's the ideal tool for any situation where you need to separate your users from your computers, or vice versa, whether you need to:

  • Protect your computer from the dust and vibrations of an industrial environment.
  • Remotely communicate with interactive information kiosks.
  • Secure your computers from the general public.
  • Provide a computer-free work environment for users.
  • You gotta look sharp.
The ServSwitch DTX has DVI-I connections, so it supports both analog and the latest digital video monitor connections. It also provides 24-bit color video and 1280 x 1024 resolution across the link.

And there's no compromising on audio either. It features both speaker and microphone jacks on both server and workstation sides, and delivers CD-quality audio, so you get the full multimedia experience from the server to the desktop.

What's more, because the ServSwitch DTX supports both Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet network connections, you have plenty bandwidth for the demanding, multimedia applications.

    Easy installation end-to-end.
Setup is straightforward, no matter if you use a point-to-point or networked configuration. The ServSwitch DTX's CPU-side transmitter connects to the computer's video, audio, and USB ports, and captures, compresses, and encrypts the computer's media streams for transmittal to the desktop side over the TCP/IP network.

Because the transmitter draws its power from the server-side computer's USB ports, there's no need for any additional power in the server room—which is ideal if you want to use the transmitter in a server cabinet or rack already short on space and outlets.

The receiver installs at the desktop (as a set-top box or on the back of a monitor) with a copper cable providing a link between its RJ-45 port and the network. This AC-powered receiver provides KVM, audio, and USB signals to the workstation user, on-site or off. Unlike traditional KVM over IP products, the DTX system doesn't require a computer for the receiving workstation. Receiver-end users can have just a monitor and USB or PS/2® keyboards or mice—or a mix of both USB and PS/2.

    Great for point-to-point connections, too.
You can also use the ServSwitch DTX in a point-to-point configuration as you would any other copper extender. Maximum distance is 328 feet (100 m) between the local computer and the remote control console.

    Easy operation from the start.
The ServSwitch DTX system requires no software installation or elaborate configuration. When the receiver powers up, the system automatically establishes a connection between the transmitter and receiver. No intervention is required by the user. To view DTX system configuration, you simply access the receiver's on-screen display (OSD).

For more advanced control, just connect a networked computer running HyperTerminal or similar emulation software to the receiver. Using the system's password-protected serial interface menu, you can then perform administrative and maintenance tasks for both the receiver and transmitter. Configure the DTX's network connections, change video settings from digital to analog VGA video, perform flash upgrades, configure hotkeys, and more.

Virtual media transfers via the USB ports.
Compatible with the USB 2.0 standard, the ServSwitch DTX supports low-, full-, and high-speed USB devices. You can use the four USB ports on the receiver to connect and access USB drives and other peripherals. If you use a PS/2 keyboard and mouse with the receiver, all four USB ports can be used for USB devices. If you use a USB keyboard and mouse with the receiver, you can connect up to two USB devices to the unit.

Attaching USB peripherals to the receiver is easy. Simply connect USB CD-ROM drives, removable USB hard drives, or other USB peripherals to the receiver and they'll function as if they're attached directly to the server—and transfer media data at the maximum speed supported by your Ethernet network. You can even hot-plug USB devices on the fly without any affect on the entire system.
